Orthopedic mattressThe mattress is a main detail of bed which allows a body to accept correct position during a sleep. In this article we will tell about modern mattresses, their kinds and stuffs and we will describe major factors which need to be meant at a mattress choice.

All of us for certain heard a word-combination «an orthopedic mattress». And what such an orthopedic mattress? If to be more exact, concept “orthopedic” not absolutely correct. The orthopedy (from Greek “orthos” - a straight line, correct and “paideia” - education) is the medical discipline studying the prevention, treatment of deformations and damages of a locomotorium of the person. That is in our case orthopedic, it that provides support of a column in correct position, warns development of various diseases, removes a stress and weariness.

Mattresses do not treat the given diseases, they are an excellent agent for preventive maintenance of all these diseases, besides, correctly selected(puck) mattress will help to take out the various painful sensations caused by irregular position of a column. Therefore the basic function of a mattress consists in providing correct position of a column of the person in flow(streaming) of all time of lying. Here all depends on several factors - weight of the person, rigidity of a mattress, individual sensations.

The United States is experiencing an economic downturn; there is no doubt about it. Oil prices are on the rise and show no sign of stopping, the housing market is in a slump, and creditors aren’t taking any chances when it comes to dispensing loans. Oil, which is the cornerstone of our economy, particularly has an effect on everything when its prices rise or fall dramatically.

Oil provides us not only with gasoline for our vehicles, but also heats our homes, powers many electricity generators, and powers our economy in general. When it costs a tractor-trailer delivering mattresses more to fill up its gas tank, it will cost you more to purchase one of those mattresses. It’s simple economics.

So what do you do? You need a mattress for your bed, but definitely don’t want to shop around yard sales for a used one. Used mattresses can harbor many unpleasant things from stains and smells to bedbugs, not to mention the fact that you never know what has been done on the mattress or who slept on it!

The easiest thing to do is shop around online. A quick search for “cheap mattresses” will yield many results and may give you a few ideas for where you can look locally. You’ll find forums and the like wherein other folks like you are looking for discount mattresses in their area that may point you in the right direction.

When searching for cheap mattresses, put down the store flyers and and try another tack. Keep reading for 5 hot tips and tricks that are sure to save you money on your next mattress purchase.

Buy Direct from the Manufacturer

Peruse through your local business directories to see if there’s a nearby factory or mattress manufacturer in your area. Because factories can’t ship out items with small defects like visible stitching, mismatched colors or small stains, they often sell these perfectly good mattresses at major discount prices.

Alternatively, if you live close to the North Carolina furniture corridor between High Point and Hickory, you could save up to 70 percent off the sticker price of a mattress by shopping there. The area is home to the country’s five largest mattress manufacturers, each operating a major factory outlet store and all offering incredibly cheap mattresses.

Wholesalers and Bulk Stores

The cost of a membership to a wholesale store such as BJ’s or Costco will run you between $45 and $60 for 12 months. However, if you can then walk into that store and pick up a brand name mattress and box spring set for a fraction of retail cost and save hundreds of dollars, then that membership is well worth the cost.

Overstock Deals

Finding cheap mattresses just got easier with websites like Overstock.com. This new wholesaler buys up factory surplus items and then sells them direct to the consumer for incredibly cheap prices.

For example, a recent search for mattresses on Overstock.com came up with a well-known luxury brand name memory foam mattress that was selling for more than 50 percent off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

Mismatched Sets and Returns

Most mattress retailers have a small section of clearance products that include very cheap mattresses. The majority of these mattresses have been returned within their 30-day trial period, absorbed small defects or have been separated from their matching box spring.

If you don’t care if your box spring and mattress match, you can save big money and get a great deal on cheap mattresses. To cash in on these deals, including those with defects and returns, remember to ask your salesperson if you can browse the clearance items.

Don’t Shop on the Weekend

Mattress salespeople usually work off of commission, so if you want to negotiate on cheap mattresses, why would you compete on a busy Saturday with hundreds of other customers? Instead, go mattress shopping on a dreary weekday and haggle down to obtain a great price.

discount mattressesDiscount mattresses on the market today are everywhere. Every store, which sells mattresses and mattress companies, sell their products at a discount. This is primarily because few people are willing to pay full retail for mattresses anymore. These mattresses can be found in any size, style, and color.

Some people order discount mattresses from online distributors and still save a lot of money even when shipping and handling are included in the price. These mattresses are typically shipped via trucking companies and they only provide curbside delivery, unless inside delivery is requested.

When purchasing discount mattresses the best approach is to conduct an online search of consumer reviews. There are multitudes of websites, which provide consumer reviews. In addition, products and reviews can be found on Google or Yahoo by conducting a search for specific mattress styles. Google searches provide a listing of different types and brands, along with prices and consumer reviews if they are available.

Purchasing discounted mattresses does not mean a person needs to settle for poor quality, there are many fine quality mattresses available. One only needs to comparison shop using online resources, consumer guides, and recommendations from family and friends to select a fine quality reduced price mattress.

Attorney General Eliot Spitzer announced November 13th settlement with a leading discount mattress dealer accused of false advertising and deceptive business practices.

Spitzer found that Resnick’s Mattress Outlet., Inc. - which operates in the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys and the Capital Region - repeatedly ran advertisements offering specifically displayed mattresses for $29.95 to $59.95. When customers sought to purchase the advertised mattresses, Resnick’s would discourage them by disparaging the quality of the mattress or by not stocking enough to meet demand. Resnick’s sales people would then steer those customers to more expensive mattresses.

“Bait and switch advertising involves the advertising of an item at a very low price to lure consumers into the store and then switching the customer to a far more expensive model by stating that the advertised product is unfit or unavailable.”

“It’s an age-old sales tactic that gives an unfair competitive advantage to a business over its competitors by using false promises in its advertising to entice customers into its stores,” Spitzer said. “My office is fighting to protect the integrity of the marketplace, to level the playing field for competitors and to ensure that consumers have clear, non-misleading information from which to make purchasing decisions.”

discount mattresses - dorm decorBefore moving into a dorm, do some homework. It’ll help you ace the transition.

Students at colleges and universities everywhere face the same challenge — transforming a small, impersonal space into a place that feels like home.

The key is to create a space that’s both functional and fun.

Time for a crash course in Dorm Decorating 101.

Be creative. To see what others have done, go on a virtual tour of university residences. Many university Web sites offer them, including the University of Regina (www.uregina.ca/residences).

“The rooms are as unique as the people living in them,” says Donna Braun, director of operations for Student Affairs at the University of Regina. “They’re so good at making it their own space.”

The door is a good place to begin.

“Often you’ll see that they put some kind of welcome message on their door … They make it their own,” Braun said.

I’m never moving again.

Of course that’s what I said last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

What is it about young adulthood that possesses you to endure the tedious task of shoving your entire life in eight million boxes, then begging or resorting to bribing friends and family to schlep those boxes and horrendously ugly, flowered, secondhand couches up several flights of stairs in the Midwest summer heat every year?

Is it the inability to afford something more permanent? The insatiable restlessness? Or, is it just pure stupidity?

For me, it’s always some sort of extenuating circumstance that forces me to continue the vicious cycle.

The walls of my brick shoebox in Moore Hall at Kansas State University were closing in on me even before the first year of college was finished. While I loved my sorority experience, the word “convent” was used on several occasions to describe my time as a resident there. Graduation bumped me out of my duplex in close proximity of Aggieville after my last year of college and a bit of an indoor mutant wasp problem, among other things, sent me running and screaming from my West Plaza apartment when I returned to Kansas City.

It was 80 degrees and sunny yesterday, but at shopping plaza and mall parking lots across the state, it looked like the day after Thanksgiving across the state.

Stores are welcoming the masses this weekend during the annual Massachusetts tax-free holiday. Business owners have geared up for the event by keeping extra staff on hand and offering extra discounts.
Ron Dill, manager of Carolina Furniture in Mendon, said he expects a big weekend for the store.
“We have plenty of help here, and we are matching the 5 percent tax discount with our own,” he said. “So far, a lot of people have been buying dining room furniture.”

Jeff Johnston, owner of Milford Bicycle, said he is offering discounts as large as 20 percent on some bikes in addition to the tax discount.
“It has been very busy here,” he said. “Traditionally we are busy on the tax-free holiday. People are buying some really big stuff.”

It was a different story at The Music House in Milford. Owner Chris Rett said he does not necessarily make more money during a tax-free weekend.
“I find that sales just shift,” he said. “Last year, sales were light during the week of the tax-free weekend, and then we made up for it during the weekend.”

discount mattresses - money saversMy home improvement project list never seems to get any shorter. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t get any bigger. I’ve had to be pretty creative and really look for ways to save money while personalizing and renovating my house. Fortunately there are a lot of resources available to renovators with grand plans but tiny budgets.

Buy second-hand

I have bought everything from mirrors to vanities and chandeliers second hand. The best resource for second-hand wares is Habitat for Humanity. The housing nonprofit has dozens of Re-stores, which are basically thrift stores for building supplies. When folks renovate, they donate their used goods to the store for a tax deduction. Habitat then sells it to you. They have everything from paint and fixtures, to windows, cabinets and furniture. Sometimes, they get large shipments of new items from retailers or manufacturers looking for a spot to unload some extras.

Architectural salvage yards

Architectural salvage yards are another, albeit slightly more expensive, option for second-hand items. If you really want something unusual or if you have an older home and want something true to your home’s era, architectural salvage yards can go a long way to fill those needs for less.

National Half Price Mattress and Furniture Store’s 16-year run on East Busch Boulevard is drawing to a close.

The discount retailer is clearing out the 11,000-square-foot showroom and moving to a smaller building on North Dale Mabry Highway this fall, store spokesman Dave Saber said.

“It’s about downsizing and more exposure,” Saber said of the move.

The store will remain open until all the merchandise has been sold, which should occur by October, he said. The new store will open shortly after that.

National Half Price Mattress and Furniture Store, 2010 E. Busch Blvd., is in a building with 40,000 square feet of retail and warehouse space. The new location at 7809 N. Dale Mabry Highway, the former site of Wood You Furniture, has a total of 10,700 square feet of space for the showroom and storage.

National Half Price Mattress and Furniture Store sells living room, dining room and bedroom furniture, as well as discount mattresses, free-standing fireplaces and other home furnishings.

The retailer opened at 1010 E. Busch Blvd. in 1992, Saber said. It moved to the current location eight years ago.

A tenant has been found to take over the building at 2010 Busch Blvd.

Business partners Jacqueline Conley and Bibi Moore said they were looking for a large building to house cultural events, offices and retail space.

They signed a lease agreement to convert the building to accommodate a children’s theater, cultural arts center, tearoom, and office and meeting space for nonprofit organizations and charitable foundations aiding Third World countries.

They expect to open the business, entertainment and cultural complex in October.

Amusing anecdotes abound about people stuffing money into discount mattresses or placing it in other hiding places rather than trust it to a bank or building society. But, does this method of saving really offer more security that putting the money away securely?

Surely, the benefits of having a current account outweigh the disadvantages, and stuffing cash in a mattress seems fraught with danger. For a start it almost certainly won’t be covered by insurance meaning that if the house burns down the cash will literally go up in smoke. However, if your local bank or building society has the misfortune of succumbing to a blaze any depositors’ cash will be safely reimbursed.

But, other than the remote risk of losing the lot in a blaze there are many other reasons to deposit the money in a secure place. First there is the sheer inconvenience of carrying large amounts of cash when it is simply not necessary. Most modern current accounts come with a debit card as standard, which offer the convenience of cash but with much more security. These can be used to pay for goods up to the value of your bank balance, and are accepted in most retail outlets in the UK.

Every once in a while, the Watchdog enjoys spending a night on the couch (voluntarily, mind you) instead of in bed.

But there’s no way I’d snooze there for nights on end. It’s just not comfortable enough.

So I can only imagine the tossing and turning Michele Johnson’s teenage sons endured. They’re 6 feet tall and have been sleeping on second-hand sofas for six weeks because the mattresses Johnson bought at Boscov’s are way overdue for delivery.

The Coplay mother bought the mattresses and box springs on July 14 at the Lehigh Valley Mall. She said she was told they’d be delivered in two weeks. She noted the date, July 28, on the top of her receipt.

A month and many phone calls later, her boys still are sacking out in the living room. Mom occasionally gives up her bed, or they use air mattresses.

Johnson said she’s gotten the runaround from Boscov’s, with the latest promised delivery scheduled for Saturday.
