The United States is experiencing an economic downturn; there is no doubt about it. Oil prices are on the rise and show no sign of stopping, the housing market is in a slump, and creditors aren’t taking any chances when it comes to dispensing loans. Oil, which is the cornerstone of our economy, particularly has an effect on everything when its prices rise or fall dramatically.
Oil provides us not only with gasoline for our vehicles, but also heats our homes, powers many electricity generators, and powers our economy in general. When it costs a tractor-trailer delivering mattresses more to fill up its gas tank, it will cost you more to purchase one of those mattresses. It’s simple economics.
So what do you do? You need a mattress for your bed, but definitely don’t want to shop around yard sales for a used one. Used mattresses can harbor many unpleasant things from stains and smells to bedbugs, not to mention the fact that you never know what has been done on the mattress or who slept on it!

Often, many discount warehouse-type stores will have a few cheap mattresses located in the back. If you don’t see any, just ask. They often won’t have these large items out on the floor. Be careful to inspect the mattress before you buy it, as some stores will sell refurbished used mattresses, claiming them to be new.
Another alternative is the air mattress. Air mattresses function well as a quick fix, as long as you don’t have pets that may puncture them. Air mattresses are usually available for under $50, with the pump included. They are not recommended as a long-term solution, but they are attractive because you can easily deflate them and take them with you on camping trips and the like.
If all other options are failing you, you can easily visit your local furniture stress and simply tell them that you are looking for the cheapest mattress possible. Once again, it is likely that they have some cheap mattresses in the warehouse in the back, out of sight of customers. Naturally, they want customers to buy what they have out on the floor-the most expensive mattress that comes with the bedroom sets they are selling. You may pay a bit more than if you chose one of the other options, but the discount mattresses you find in a furniture store are likely to be a bit more comfortable than those found elsewhere.
